The Lord Mayor's Appeal marks the Year of the Dragon

The Lord Mayor Alderman Michael Mainelli and Lady Mayoress Elisabeth Mainelli hosted a Lunar New Year charity reception in celebration of the Year of the Dragon at Mansion House on Thursday 8 February 2024 in aid of The Lord Mayor's Appeal.

Attended by 170 guests including guest of honour the Chinese Ambassador HE Zheng Zeguang, the evening was kicked off with a speech from the Lord Mayor.

He said,

“Tonight we celebrate the cultural connections between the City of London and China, while also raising much-needed funds for The Lord Mayor’s Appeal. It is great to see so many representatives from Chinese businesses based in the City here to support us this evening.”

The evening also included words from the Chinese Ambassador, John McLean OBE and a stunning vocal performance from Irish soprano Margaret Keys which included a short Chinese verse sung a cappella.

With all proceeds going to The Lord Mayor’s Appeal, guests took part in a raffle and a live action conducted by Tim Skeet, Executive Board member of Bank of China. Sought over prizes included an exquisite oil painting of Mansion House signed by the Lord Mayor and a beautiful set of traditional Chinese Silk Brocade Scrolls.

The Lord Mayor’s Appeal would like to thank John McLean OBE, CCCUK, our event sponsors Bank of China, China Construction Bank, DLA Piper, Farani Taylor Solicitors, Hawksford and Reflections of the Lord Mayor for their generous support and everyone who came along to celebrate.
