The Lord Mayor

Lord Mayor Roger Gifford was born in Scotland and is married to Dr Clare Gifford, a consultant haematologist. Between them, they have six children. Roger was educated at Sedbergh School and at Trinity College Oxford, where he read Chemistry. He has a 35 year career in banking and is the UK Country Manager for the Swedish Financial Group, SEB, where he has been for 30 years.

Roger was elected as Alderman for the Ward of Cordwainer in the City o fLondon in 2004 and 2011. Alderman Gifford is a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Musicians and the Worshipful Company of International Bankers (Master 2010/11). Roger is interested in promoting the creative industries as the UK’s most important sector after financial services and chairs the English Chamber Orchestra, the Tenebrae Choir and is a trustee of the St Paul’s Cathedral Foundation and choir school, among other arts involvements.

Roger lives in London and Perthshire.
