Wellbeing in the City wins gold at the 2019 Learning Awards
Wellbeing in the City, a ground-breaking learning tool developed by the Samaritans as part of the This is Me campaign, won gold in the 'External Learning Solution of the Year' category at the Learning and Performance Institute’s annual Learning Awards.
The awards recognise outstanding examples of high standards, best practice, innovation and excellence in learning and development.
Wellbeing in the City brings Samaritans’ wellbeing and listening skills into the workplace to help employees look after their own mental wellbeing, as well as those of their colleagues. It is part of the This is Me campaign, which aims to reduce the stigma around mental health in the workplace and support organisations create inclusive workplace cultures.
Over 400 organisations have already adopted the training and over 90% of employees who have participated felt more able to recognise emotional distress in others and felt more confident about approaching someone who was struggling.
The award judges said:
“The team carefully approached the design of the tool and the content, understanding the breadth of audience and the complexity of tackling mental health and wellbeing in the workplace. They have achieved artful simplicity in the Tool, and real emotional connection with the narrative and scenarios. And the results so far clearly evidence that they got the balance right.”
Samaritans’ CEO, Ruth Sutherland, said:
"There’s a real feeling at the moment that mental and emotional health is being discussed and taken more seriously. People understand the importance of helping their staff through difficult times. Wellbeing in the City gives businesses the tools to do that – a practical route to a more supportive workplace."
