Key details

Time: 10am to 11am
Location: Online (Zoom)
Join us to uncover the hidden rules of the City and how social capital shape career progression and social mobility.
Overview:
Who gets access to the insights that help to navigate your career?
Pierre Bourdieu developed the concept of social capital to refer to the resources individuals are able to access through their social networks. At this panel discussion we will unpack how social capital influences career progression and explore what employers can do to build a workplace where everyone has a fair chance to thrive. We will examine the hidden rules of the Square Mile, from dress codes to event etiquette, and how such rules can create barriers to progression and belonging.
The Lord Mayor's Appeal's Power of Inclusion programme aims to increase opportunities for those from diverse socio-economic backgrounds to start, develop and progress their careers in the City of London. This webinar will also provide an opportunity to learn more about how the Power of Inclusion initiative can support your inclusion practices.
Objectives:
- To shine a spotlight on the hidden rules (i.e. unspoken norms, dress codes and etiquette) of the Square Mile
- To explore how these unwritten rules of the workplace effect both career progression and mental health
- To identify practical steps employers can take to create a more inclusive workplace culture.
