A Great Gatsby Celebration: The Ninth Sheriffs’ Charity Ball Dazzles at Guildhall
On Friday 19 September 2025, the Sheriffs of the City of London, Alderman Gregory Jones KC and David Chalk, welcomed 360 guests to London’s Guildhall for the ninth Sheriffs’ Ball, in support of The Lord Mayor’s Appeal and The Sheriffs’ and Recorder’s Fund.
This year’s prestigious charity ball transported guests back to the roaring 1920s with a dazzling Great Gatsby theme, marking the centenary of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel 'The Great Gatsby'.
The evening began in Guildhall Yard, where guests were greeted by Gatsby Greeters and entertained by a lively trio of musicians. Guests were then ushered into the Crypts to enjoy a sparkling wine and cocktail reception, generously sponsored by Deputy Dawn Wright and Martin Wright.
Dinner was served in the magnificent Great Hall, where Virginia Bond’s striking Gatsby-inspired table decorations set the scene for a three-course feast. Between courses, Wild Tonics and the band brought the spirit of the Jazz Age alive with live music, inspiring guests to join in the fun on the dance floor. After dinner, the entertainment continued with a lively Charleston lesson led by the MC, before DJ Deano kept the party dancing until midnight.
A key highlight of the evening was its fundraising. Guests took part in a lively round of “True or False,” with funds going directly to The Sheriffs’ and Recorder’s Fund, and congratulations went to winner Amy Hopper from the Entrepreneurs Company. The silent auction – featuring 51 generous prizes – was also a huge success, raising vital funds for The Lord Mayor's Appeal.
Thanks to the generosity of all those present, the ninth Sheriffs’ Ball was more than just an evening of glamour and music, but a true celebration of generosity and community, where many of the guests made a meaningful contribution to supporting the City’s communities and changing lives across London. It was not only a night to remember but also a powerful reminder of the joy that comes from coming together to support meaningful causes.
The Sheriffs and The Lord Mayor’s Appeal would like to express their gratitude to table and ticket buyers, sponsors, prize donors, and the Organising Committee for their generous support.
