Sheriffs' Brazilian Ball Brings Sizzle to the City
The Sheriffs of the City of London, Alderman Robert Hughes-Penney and Deputy Keith Bottomley, hosted the 10th Sheriffs’ Ball at Guildhall this September. Celebrating the colour and culture of Brazil, the fabulous Brazilian Beach Ball delighted guests and broke fundraising records for The Lord Mayor’s Appeal.
Guests enjoyed a sparkling drinks reception featuring classic caipirinha cocktails, honey bee mocktails and Wiston sparkling wine, before taking their seats for a delicious three-course dinner prepared by The Clink. The Brazilian-inspired menu featured moqueca-inspired fish, coffee-braised short ribs and pineapple carpaccio with mango sorbet.
Bringing the Brazilian Beach Ball to life, Brazilian Fantasy, London's leading samba collective lead a selection of themed entertainers with world-class choreography, dazzling costumes and the spirit of Rio to the City. This included a samba dance class for guests followed by DJ Deano - who kept the dance floor moving until midnight.
A silent auction offered an array of exclusive experiences - from a ten-day Algarve escape for six to a Ferrari factory experience. The ever-popular Heads & Tails game brought plenty of excitement and friendly competition, with congratulations to Amy Hopper from Entrepreneurs Company, who won for the second year running! Thanks to the incredible generosity of everyone involved.
Thanks to representatives from the Brazilian Embassy for helping us celebrate Brazilian culture and a very special thank you to headline sponsor Rosary Capital, alongside all our premium table hosts, sponsors and supporters, whose generosity helped make the event such a success. We are also grateful to everyone who attended, The Clink, our fantastic entertainers and all those who worked behind the scenes to deliver such an unforgettable occasion.
Reflecting on the evening, Sheriff Alderman Robert Hughes-Penney said:
“We are grateful to nearly 450 guests for their generosity and for bringing the energy to a wonderful party filled with laughter and dancing. We raised over £100,000 for The Lord Mayor’s Appeal and the Sheriffs’ & Recorder’s Fund — the largest sum in the ten-year history of the Ball.”
