9 September

Our City Giving Day Countdown Breakfast is a hit!

To kick off September, The Lord Mayor of the City of London Alderman Professor Michael Mainelli hosted the City Giving Day Countdown Breakfast at Mansion House.

Joined by over 100 representatives from large and small businesses across The City, it gave participants the final opportunity to share plans and swap fundraising strategies ahead of the big day.

Marking the three-week-to-go-point until The Lord Mayor's Appeal provides a platform for corporates to celebrate their annual philanthropic endeavours, the breakfast started with a rousing speech from The Lord Mayor who said;

“I’m pleased to say we already have 590 signed up, but that means we need still more of you to get involved to get us over the line. So if you’ve taken part in City Giving Day before, thank you. Please join us again! And if you’re new to City Giving Day, welcome. I promise you, it’s always a lot of fun and you won’t regret it.”

Another key speaker was Sam Sims CEO of The Appeal’s charity partner National Numeracy who reminded guests that ‘City Giving Day is such a wonderful opportunity to bring people together and showcase the impact the support of the City can make’.

He also mentioned the impact National Numeracy have been able to achieve with their Every Londoner Counts thanks to The Appeal’s annual fundraising events including City Giving Day.

Lawson Muncaster, Co-Founder of City A.M and long-time supporter was on hand to remind businesses who haven’t registered to get moving; whilst Anthony Mazen, Head of People for Customer Specialist Support at Lloyds Banking Group spoke enthusiastically about his five years supporting City Giving Day.

He also told the crowd that taking part annually gave businesses ‘an opportunity to continually experiment and try new things to make even more of an impact.’

City Giving Day is an annual event hosted by The Lord Mayor’s Appeal uniting the City to celebrate and promote the positive impact of philanthropy. Taking place every September, it gives companies the chance to showcase their charitable and community work – collectively sharing their community outreach via the City Giving Day webpage and social media.

Whether City businesses support The Lord Mayor’s Appeal, or their own chosen charities – it gives companies a platform to tell their fundraising and volunteering stories and to collaborate with other businesses within the City community.
