Getting ready for City Giving Day

With less than three months to go until City Giving Day we held our third virtual engagement breakfast, to highlight what businesses can expect from joining us on the 21st September.

Attendees were welcomed to the seminar by The Lord Mayor, who will be celebrating his second City Giving Day. He discussed his hopes for this year’s event and that potentially many of the activities have the possibility to take place in real life.

Jan Foster City Giving Day programme manager provided an overview of the initiative to those attending the seminar, explaining how easy it is to get involved for companies and why the day means so much to everyone in the City. She also highlighted that companies are able to raise money for any charity that they wish on the day.

One of The Lord Mayor’s Appeal’s four chosen charities is The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and we were thrilled to have Alex Hay from the charity join us for our seminar. He explained a little more about what the DofE does and how the money from fundraisers like City Giving Day helps them to keep on doing their work.

At our engagement breakfasts we also like to share the stories of companies who have been involved in City Giving Day over the years, so attendees can hear first-hand experience from the event. Helen Chiles, Corporate Philanthropy at Bloomberg took some time to explain why they have been involved as a company since 2013. She highlighted how it gives them the perfect opportunity to raise money whilst also engaging with employees, clients and their local communities.

Our final speaker for the morning was Oli Coles founder of Welba, a new challenge based social app that helps to raise money for charities as well as improving your own wellbeing. Oli joined the session as it was revealed that we would be working alongside Welba for this year’s City Giving Day to create a challenge for people to get involved with. The challenge will be revealed ahead of the day, with anyone being able to get involved and will specifically raise money for our four charity partners. We look forward to sharing more details about our partnership with Welba over the next few weeks.
