A winning start to The Lord Mayor’s fundraising year

The Lord Mayor’s Appeal started their 2022 fundraising events with a sell-out evening at Mansion House.

The Lord Mayor’s Race Night had 240 people in attendance and was a hugely successful evening despite battling against the travel chaos the tube strike in London had caused.

Arriving on the night guests were instantly connected with the equestrian theme as the Mounted Light Cavalry welcomed those attending to Mansion House. A champagne and canape reception began the evening followed by a three-course dinner with wine.

To get guests into the racing spirit there were three thrilling screened horse races, played between courses, with recorded commentary by Mike Cattermole. Those attending could bet on the horse they thought would win and a big congratulations to all those who put lucky pledges on our three winning horses: Panmure Pony, Ciarraí Abú and Spirit of Newbury.

We were thrilled to have Hayley Moore, Sky Sports TV presenter as our MC for the evening and guests enjoyed her discussion with former champion jockey Sir AP McCoy OBE who gave a few top tips for the Cheltenham Festival taking place in a weeks’ time. Sir AP McCoy is a former 20 times Champion jump jockey and having lifted the Cheltenham Gold Cup himself, guests were really treated to a great insight into the Festival.

There was also a silent auction on the night with 24 exciting lots on offer which guests were able to bid for via iPads and a highly successful live auction conducted by Henry Howard-Sneyd from Sotheby’s with seven fantastic lots.

The events success means we are on track to raise over £210,000 for The Lord Mayor’s Appeal’s supported charities The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, National Numeracy, Place2Be, OnSide and Samaritans as well as the Injured Jockeys Fund which the evening all raised funds for.

The Lord Mayor's Appeal would like to thank everyone who have supported us on the event: in particular Sir AP McCoy OBE, Hayley Moore, our premium table sponsors Foundation Developments and Lex Group, all those who bought tables or tickets or donated prizes as well as the fantastic Organising Committee for all their hard work.

The evening was a perfect start to the mayoral fundraising year, and we look forward to welcoming our supporters at a whole host of other events throughout the year. You can find out details on our upcoming events here.
