National Numeracy Day 2024 creates biggest impact yet
We're happy to share that our charity parther National Numeracy created their biggest impact yet for National Numeracy Day 2024. Kicking off on 22 May, the 'week' actually ran throughout May and June - with a host of activities designed to engage the country in everyday maths.
Below are some of the highlights...
This year National Numeracy Day achieved unprecedented impact with their most diverse, inclusive, and place-based campaign by taking National Numeracy Day on the road for the first time.
The national charity delivered events in communities nationwide, equipping hundreds of thousands of children and adults with the numeracy tools they need to thrive at home, work, and school.
Running for the seventh year, National Numeracy Day saw National Numeracy's brand awareness soar to new heights.
There was widespread national media coverage, with a massive 569 mentions including discussions on breakfast news and Loose Women. Helping to embed National Numeracy Day firmly in the public consciousness, the campaign drove a 48% increase in search traffic to their website that day.
Meanwhile the campaign has become a key ‘date in the diary’ for numeracy related policy and news. That significant statements are now made on National Numeracy Day, underscores the growing influence and recognition of their campaign.
This year saw the Scottish Government’s announcement of a new maths advisor, a question asked in the House of Commons, and a big push from the Department for Education’s Skills for Life campaign. Getting on with numbers is truly transformative and in 2024 National Numeracy Day made a huge contribution to the nation’s numeracy.
This year, the charity mounted their first ever Big Number Natter Live event, with a fantastic panel of experts in front of a live audience. ‘Making the Most of Your Money’ took place in Tower Hamlets, London, where 25% of the adult population are living in wards with a greater numeracy need.
The event was chaired by National Numeracy Ambassador Timi MerrimanJohnson, founder of Mr MoneyJar, and featured a panel of financial experts, including Claer Barrett, Consumer Editor of the Financial Times; Abigail Foster, Founder of Elent Finance; Sam Sims, CEO of National Numeracy; and Katie Watts, Campaigns and Policy Lead at Money Saving Expert. The discussion emphasised the importance of confidence and numeracy skills in financial management.
