18 December My DofE volunteering: Campaigning for the youth in Hackney
Big Give Christmas Challenge - thank you!
We are delighted to announce that we raised a net total of £66,952 in this year’s Big Give Christmas Challenge. Thanks to all our donations, and generous pledges from by Lord Mayor William Russell, and former Lord Mayors Peter Estlin and Charles Bowman, and the Reed Foundation, we are able to support our charity partners to do their pioneering work.
The money raised during The Big Give will go towards the charity partnerships with charities Place2Be, OnSide Youth Zones, Samaritans and The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. It will help the Appeal to create A Better City For All, helping 1 million people thrive in an inclusive, skilled, diverse and fair City.
Small amounts really do make a big difference.
- £5 allows the Samaritans to answer a call. It costs £5,000 to keep the Samaritans’ entire phone line open for 24 hours.
- £7 will enable a child to come to a vital lunch time session with a Place2Be counsellor. Children self-refer to these sessions and come to talk about any concerns they may be having such as bullying or anxiety about exams. £20 could help support a parent with counselling.
- £22 would enable a young person to start a Bronze or Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award programme, giving them the opportunity to develop invaluable skills for education, work and life.
- £100 could give 20 young people membership to an OnSide Youth Zone with 20+ different activities every day, 52 weeks a year.
Thank you to everyone who generously donated. What a great way to end the year!
