Dragon Boat Race lights up a wet day at Fairlop Waters
On Sunday 29 July the Dragon Boat Race took place at Fairlop Waters in Essex in aid of The Lord Mayor's Appeal. The event began with a drinks reception in the Boat House with a welcome speech from the Lord Mayor followed by a traditional dragon dance on the shore of the lake. Then the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress climbed into their boats, took to the water and raced in a thrilling spectacle.
On dry land a number of exciting stalls offered food, drinks and arts and crafts. In the Lord Mayor's VIP Enclosure guests were treated to a delicious lunch, afternoon tea and dance performances. There were high spirits throughout despite the wet weather and participants fully embraced the dress competition with impressive summer outfits and face painting.
The Lord Mayor's Appeal would like to express their gratitude to the event organiser Lady Lenzie and her team for their hard work on the event, as well as to the sponsors, corporate partners and everyone who took part or supported the event.
If you would like to sponsor the Dragon Boat teams, ourwho took part the JustGiving page is still open for donations here https://www.justgiving.com/campaigns/charity/lordmayorsappeal-2018/dragonboatrace. Any donations however small will be greatly appreciated.
The Dragon Boat Race concludes The Lord Mayor's Appeal's series of fundraising events for the summer and we look forward to seeing you at other events again in September.
