29 October The City celebrates diversity in Guildhall
Lord Mayor's Show Rehearsed and Ready
Few things are as quiet as the Lord Mayor's dawn rehearsal of the Lord Mayor's Show route as Lord Mayor elect Peter Estlin found out this morning. The next Lord Mayor will be formally introduced to the City and the world on 10 November at the Lord Mayor's Show as he travels from Mansion House to the Royal Courts of Justice as a key feature of the 3-mile long pageant.
Pageantmaster Dominic Reid points out that the early-morning rehearsal is the only time the horses will be given to experience the weight of the heavy coach and it is the only time the new Lord Mayor will be able to practice getting in and out of the coach, as well as his ceremonial oath at the Royal Courts of Justice.
Lord Mayor Elect Alderman Peter Estlin says: “My mayoral theme for the year, ‘Shaping Tomorrow’s City Today’, will drive home the message that our fast-changing society and access to new technology must be open to all, in particular, the elderly, poor, and disabled, many of whom are at risk of being left behind." This will be incredibly evident in the fabulous Show on Saturday. The City is poised for a fantastic celebration.
