Lord Mayor's Show a Spectacular Success

Share this:

Saturday 10 November saw the streets of the City brighten up alongside the sunshine for The Lord Mayor's Show 2018, now in its 803rd year. The 3-mile long procession marks the first public engagement for the new Lord Mayor of the City of London, Alderman Peter Estlin. The day saw thousands of people line the City streets to watch the parade made up of everything from military bands to ancient and modern Livery companies, business leaders and charities, with profits from the event going to the Lord Mayor's Appeal.

The 691st Lord Mayor travelled from Guildhall to Mansion House and then on to the Royal Courts of Justice before swearing allegiance to the Crown.

The Lord Mayor's Show began in 1215 as a river pageant on the Thames and is the oldest unrehearsed pageant in the world. The day also saw many interaction zones across the City such as in Paternoster Square and the Bloomberg Arcade. The Lord Mayor's mayoral theme is 'Shaping Tomorrow's City Today' as he acts as an ambassador for the City's financial and professional services. The show truly was a spectacular opening to a fantastic year ahead for the Lord Mayor.
