The Lord Mayor's Appeal are pleased to announce two pieces of news:
Congratulations to Caroline Wright who has been promoted to Chief Executive of The Lord Mayor’s Appeal.
Having spent 29 years in the charity sector formerly at The Prince’s Trust, Caroline joined The Lord Mayor’s Appeal in 2014 as part of the Appeal team for Sir Alan Yarrow. This team then became the permanent team working with consecutive Lord Mayor’s and Appeals. Caroline was instrumental in the strategy A Better City for All incorporating the 4 pillars Inclusive, Healthy, Skilled and Fair and taking the Appeal from a one year Appeal to a multi-year Appeal which as well as running four initiatives - Power of Inclusion, This is Me, She Can Be and City Giving Day - currently supports the three charities Place2Be, OnSide Youth Zones and Samaritans.
Congratulations also to Sir Charles Bowman, former Lord Mayor and Chair of our Trustees who was awarded his Knighthood in the Queen’s Birthday Honours – citation below:
Charles Bowman is a highly respected accountancy professional with an impressive record of achievement in multiple fields which he has carried forward as Alderman, Sheriff and Lord Mayor, gaining strong commendation. He has been unremitting in his aim of securing greater business transparency and accountability including through his ‘Business of Trust’ campaign and his work with the ICAEW where he has chaired the Audit and Assurance Faculty, the Assurance Panel and currently chairs the Audit Quality Forum. His performance as Lord Mayor has been outstanding. Domestically, he initiated an International Trade dinner at Mansion House to promote the UK and drove Commonwealth engagement. He has been instrumental in the development of the National Trade Academy Programme. His “Leaders of Tomorrow“ programme to develop promising business talent has been complemented by his co-chairmanship of the City business study on Youth Employability. He secured 100 City affiliations for RAF Units to coincide with the centenary of the RAF. He is an advocate for the Samaritans spearheading the charity's City ‘Wellbeing in the Workplace’ programme. He personally initiated the partnership with the Diversity Project to produce a highly praised fundraiser evening which topped £340,000. He played a leading part in raising £24 million over 6 years for major building projects and bursary programmes at Uppingham School, is President of the Commonwealth Youth Orchestra and Choir, a governor at a Hackney primary school and a Central London JP.
