20 December How The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is helping to shape careers
Corporate Partners of UK-China Charity Initiative lunch at Mansion House
The Lord Mayor hosted an intimate lunch at Mansion House on Friday 6th March for 13 corporate partners of the UK-China Charity Initiative 2020 to thank them for their generous support. With HE Ambassador Liu Xiaoming attending, the event involved a Champagne reception in the Drawing Rooms with a group photo and presentation of partnership certificates followed by lunch in the Long Parlour including speeches from the Lord Mayor, the Ambassador and Wenjian Fang, Chairman of CCCUK.
The UK-China Charity Initiative was launched in early December 2018 as a partnership between CCCUK and The Lord Mayor's Appeal, aiming to strengthen the cultural and business ties between the City and China and to raise funds for The Lord Mayor's Appeal (50%) and CCCUK poverty alleviation projects in China (50%). A number of fundraising events have taken place under the initiative since its launch and so far over £100,000 has been raised already. The first Chinese project was the construction of a multi-media room for a rural school in Shaanxi Province which was completed in May 2019 and was fully operational in August 2019.
In early 2020 we launched the UK-China Charity Initiative Corporate Partners programme where companies have committed to become partners to fund our second project in China, the building of a medical clinic in Daluo, in Yunnan, China. A large-scale fundraising event for the initiative, Chinese New Year Charity Concert and Dinner, was due to take place at Mansion House on 31st January 2020 however due to Covid-19, we made the decision to cancel the event.
The Lord Mayor's Appeal would like to express our sincere thanks to CCCUK and all the corporate partners of the initiative for their support.
