United We Stand – UK and China fight against Covid-19
CCCUK and The Lord Mayor’s Appeal are working together under the UK-China Charity Initiative to fight against Covid-19 in the UK. Bank of China in Beijing have generously donated 20 ventilators and 1.86 million pieces of PPE equipment, including face masks, gloves, surgical gowns, gloves and goggles, which have been flown to the UK from China with the help of the British Embassy in China and are being distributed primarily to the NHS to reciprocate the UK’s support to China earlier this year. The donation will be a strong proof of UK-China friendship and cooperation and a reflection of the spirit of ‘UK and China, United We Stand’, a significant moment that capture the start of CCCUK’s support to the UK in the fight against the epidemic.
The UK-China Charity Initiative was launched in early December 2018 as a partnership between CCCUK and The Lord Mayor's Appeal, aiming to strengthen the cultural and business ties between the City and China and to raise funds for The Lord Mayor's Appeal (50%) and CCCUK poverty alleviation projects in China (50%).
A number of fundraising events have taken place under the initiative since its launch and so far over £100,000 has been raised already. The first Chinese project was the construction of a multi-media room for a rural school in Shaanxi Province which was completed in May 2019 and was fully operational in August 2019. In early 2020 we launched the UK-China Charity Initiative Corporate Partners programme where 13 companies have committed to become partners to fund our second project in China, the building of a medical clinic in Daluo, in Yunnan, China which is due to commence this year.
The Lord Mayor’s Appeal would like to thank Bank of China and CCCUK for their generous support on this project to help fight Covid-19, save lives and protect the NHS.
