On Tuesday 5 May participated in #GivingTuesdayNow. It was an opportunity to acknowledge the amazing work that individuals and organisations are doing every day to support vulnerable people and those in need. Our charity partners Place2Be, Onside Youth Zones, Samaritans and The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award have been working tirelessly to deliver their services throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, and we took the opportunity to showcase their amazing work on social media.

Place2Be ‘s team of mental health professions are still working tireless to help children, young people and their families to cope with the stress and anxiety caused by the Covid-19 crisis. They have made over 3800 phone ‘check ins’- for some families these calls have been a lifeline. They are also increasing support for teachers through mental health training and remote sessions.

Onside Youth Zones staff are continuing to support youth zone members and their families through the prep and delivery of over 600 food parcels each week, focusing on households where young people receive free school meals. They are also making calls to 150+ young people each week to ensure that the most isolated have someone to talk to.

Samaritans are meeting the public need for emotional support by answering an increasing volume of calls related to #COVID19. We’re so proud of all the volunteers and staff dedicating their time to helping others. They are also a part of OurFrontline, who are supporting the frontline health, care, emergency and key workers. The scheme aims to give round-the-clock one-to-one vital support for those putting themselves at physical and mental risk for us all.

More than ever, young people need their Duke of Edinburgh Award to help them build resilience, keep positive, stay motivated, communicate with others and keep physically and mentally healthy. Their #DofEWithADifference ensures that participants don’t miss out on the opportunity to achieve their Awards.

As well as saying thank you to our charities, we came together as a team took a moment to reflect on people, actions, and places we are grateful for.

Going forward we ask everyone to take the time to say thank you to someone they are grateful - whether it be a key worker, an organisation, a colleague, a family member or a friend!

The Lord Mayor’s Appeal and our charity partners need your support to continue to reach those you benefit from our support. If you are able to help donate and contribute to the important work we do please do so here.
