The Lord Mayor of the City of London Alderman Peter Estlin hosted the UK-China Charity Initiative reception in celebration of the year of the pig at Mansion House on Friday 8th February 2019. The event was part of the wider UK-China Charity Initiative that was launched in early December 2018 as a partnership between CCCUK and The Lord Mayor's Appeal, aiming to strengthen the cultural and business ties between the City and China and to raise funds for The Lord Mayor's Appeal (50%) and a rural school in Shaanxi Province, China (50%). Their share of the funds will support the construction of a multi-media room that will enable the students a place to host events, video conferences as well as other educational activities.
The evening, attended by almost 300 guests, entailed a welcome speech from the Lord Mayor, a keynote speech from the Chinese Ambassador, HE Liu Xiaoming and from Fang Wenjian, Chairman of CCCUK, musical performances by the talented young pianist Ke Ma and London Chinese Children’s Ensemble, a live auction with auctioneer Jeffrey Archer and raffle along with drinks and canapes. John McLean OBE, Head of China-UK relations for The Lord Mayor's Appeal, acted as the Master of Ceremonies for the evening.
The Lord Mayor’s Appeal would like to thank our event partner CCCUK, all the sponsors for their generous support and everyone who attended.
