Supporters of the Green Ribbon campaign ELBA have used the campaign to raise awareness of the stigma attached to mental health through their work in the community and with business, also using it internally with their own staff. Every year they work with over 50 businesses and around 8,000 business volunteers to support community wellbeing and positive mental health in the commmunity- supporting families, reducing isolation, talking to school pupils, and helping with the open spaces and places which are vital for wellbeing in East London.

This year ELBA could not buy and distribute the Green Ribbons in the usual way, so they got creative and joined us in the virtual campaign. As well as attaching hte Green Ribbon to all of their emails for the duration of two weeks, all the staff used our origami guide to create their own green ribbons, and they set up an online series of activities for staff each day of Mental Health Awareness Week.

They also worked with their ELBA business partners to find volunteers to re-introduce some social activities for the elderly and isolated online. As we move into the recovery period, they are beginning to plan how they will continue to support positive community wellbeing, including keeping up support for the isolated; dealing with the digital divide which has pushed some families and elderly people into deeper isolation; and getting on with refreshing and maintaing open spaces and community places- the important role of which many of us have noticed more during the lockdown period.

"For us, the Green Ribbon campaign is the annual peak of our work on mental health and wellbeing. It reminds us that there are increasing numbers of businesses, organisations and individuals who are also working for the same goal, it refreshes our spirit and sets us up for the coming year. We'll be wearing our Green Ribbons on our trackie tops, pajamas, sweatshirts and whatever else we'll be wearing while working from home."

We'd like to thank ELBA and their employees for their support and for joining us in our mission to #endthestigma.
