On Friday 11 September 2020, the London Market Dinner Committee asked people to join in their one day walking challenge, Walking for our World. Participants were asked to combine exercise with a little daydreaming and clock up steps to get to their favourite destinations. Simply they were asked to get walking and see how far they could get.

People walked locally from home as well as in the City on what turned out to be a glorious sunny day. The total number of steps was 686,163 or roughly equivalent to 515km or 320 miles and the destination collectedly walked to is Nantes in France – where we would all love to be right now!

The Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress took part in Cambridgeshire and London Market Dinner Committee Chair Dominic Christian led a committee walk from Leadenhall Market in the City to Wapping joined by Caroline Wright, CEO of The Lord Mayor’s Appeal and other members of the insurance committee.

Walking for our World coincided with Lloyd’s charity challenge week and employees across the sector took on the task of additionally fundraising for the Appeal as one of three beneficiary charities, , for which we are very grateful. We are also hugely thankful to John Neal, CEO of Lloyd’s, for taking on a 400km bike ride as his personal charity challenge and donating a third of the funds.

If you’d like to donate to The Lord Mayor’s Appeal, you can do so here.
