Rt. Hon The Lord Mayor William Russell would like to thank and congratulate everyone who participated in City Giving Day 2020:
"2020 was the seventh year of City Giving Day – and the biggest yet. With a record number of 460 companies taking part, The Lord Mayor’s Appeal’s City Giving Day 2020 was a resounding success, despite looking very different to usual. The team at The Lord Mayor’s Appeal did an amazing job to bring together a busy programme of events and activities, and should be very pleased with the result – a day celebrating giving, charity, philanthropy and volunteering in the City of London.
This year the majority of activities took part online. This meant I was able to participate in 16 different events, and see the innovative and engaging ways that businesses were raising money. I would like to thank all those who participated, going ahead despite this being a difficult time, and showing their dedication and commitment to supporting those in society who need our help right now. My thanks goes to Alderman Vincent Keavney and Sheriff Hayward for also joining events, and of course, the Lady Mayoress, Hilary Russell, for being by my side, as well as attending her own events - 10 in total.
It’s too early to know exactly how much has been raised, but I know that The Lord Mayor’s Appeal’s charity partners Place2Be, OnSide Youth Zones, Samaritans and The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, as well as organisations’ own chosen charities, will be immensely grateful for the time, energy and money that so many people put in to the day.
City Giving Day shows the philanthropic side of the City. We know that so much good work goes on in the Square Mile, and it’s been a delight to showcase this through City Giving Day. Being able to see so much great work in action – online and offline – makes me so immensely proud of the city that I live and work in."
